Chasing Growth with Joy
Ross came to kayaking from a full-throttle background in rugby — and he brought that same energy, grit, and enthusiasm to the river. What started as a search for a new challenge quickly became a full-blown passion. Since joining the Roster in 2019, Ross has gone from complete beginner to achieving his Advanced White Water Award — and he’s still pushing for more.
Ross is the kind of athlete who lights up every session. He learns fast, laughs hard, and dives deep into the mechanics of performance. He doesn’t just want to do the move — he wants to understand it, break it down, and rebuild it stronger.
The Joy of Freestyle
What defines our coaching relationship is a shared curiosity. My role has been to refine Ross’s technical skill and precision, while helping him transfer his sharp sporting mind into freestyle progress. Together we’ve explored how his rugby knowledge — especially around mindset and movement — can unlock new insights in freestyle kayaking.
Ross is proof that the spark of learning can burn bright at any stage. He lives the process, celebrates the wins, and keeps coming back with determination and joy.
A Message to Other Athletes
You don’t have to be young to begin.
You don’t have to be perfect to improve.
You just need to show up with heart, ask good questions — and let the water teach you something new.
